“The goal of technology in education (and I would argue in most spaces) should not be “efficiency,” it should be effectiveness.” 💯, Emily. I think the problem is with our collective misunderstanding and misexpectation of these two words. We assume efficiency will lead to effectiveness but too late get around to realizing it doesn’t. I think we’re seeing the same thing with technology in healthcare. Electronic medical records will lead to greater efficiency and more effective/efficacious outcomes. It remains to be seen whether this is the case. (Or it’s already proven not?) But it’s definitely leading to more health care provider burnout. Are we setting our kids up for similar, not to mention parents and educators? 🤯
These images are amazing, and the Norwegian video makes me laugh every time I watch it. This needs shouting from rooftops - "Nearly 30 years into the internet era, we should all know by now that 'personalized' means that you and your data are now the commodity." I don't know if enough of us do understand that - if we did, I think things would change rather quickly. We need a PSA....
